What has the union done for you? RESPA has bargained and negotiated everything that is in the contract. Through this process of negotiations with the school board and administration is how you receive the benefits of the union contract. Below is one of the section in your contract.

Loss of Seniority Article VI, par. A, sec 1, pg. 9
Any employee will lose his/her seniority and terminate his/her employment with the Board for the following reasons:

Any employee will lose his/her seniority and terminate his/her employment with the Board for the following reasons:
- Employee quits or retires.
- Employee is discharged and discharge is not reversed.
- Employee is absent for two (2) working days without notifying the Board. Exceptions due to extenuating circumstances may be made by the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee.
- If the employee fails to return to work when recalled from layoff as set forth in the recall procedure provided herein.
- Involuntary layoff for one (1) year or length of work service in the District, not to exceed two (2) years, whichever is greater.
- If the employee gives a false reason for a leave of absence.
- If a settlement with the employee has been made for permanent total disability.
- If the employee falsified pertinent information on his/her application for employment. (The falsification may come to light sometime after the employee’s date of hire or acquiring seniority.)
- If the employee uses a leave of absence to engage in other work without the District’s express consent, or continues to engage in secondary employment which is inconsistent with the basis for the leave.
- If the employee fails to return to work as provided in an approved leave of absence. Exceptions due to extenuating circumstances may be made by the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee.
